Don’t Blink, Apple.

Due to the advancements in our technology, we have adapted to having a vast amount of information and digital content at our fingertips in an instant; because of this, a majority of people now have shorter attention spans.

There are various methods graphic designers and advertisers have begun to use to help grab our attention when we’re on our daily commute, scrolling on our phones or walking down the street. One method which has seemingly been an effective design method is fast typography within motion graphics.

Fast typography is the occurrence of different words and/or phrases appearing suddenly and playfully on screen; it can be used in a structured way, or a completely sporadic way. Either way, it is clear that the effects of fast typography in motion graphics are a great way to grab the attention of viewers. The use of fast typography allows the graphic designer to communicate the entire message and allowing the viewer to receive all of the required information in a short period of time. This also can persuade the viewer to stop and watch the motion due to its attention grabbing style.

A great example of this is in the Don’t Blink video by Apple. In this example, Apple uses fast typography appearing and moving with the beat of the music. This provides and exciting introduction to their product and grabs the viewers attention. In combination with this fast typography, Apple uses footage of their product, external and internal, paired with video footage and photography to create an impactful video.
