Stefan Sagmeister.
Stefan Sagmeister is an Austrian graphic designer whose work is focused on typography and incorporating it into environments and experimenting with letters and type with objects and things that aren’t exactly ‘traditional’ for graphic design.
I find the experimental nature of Sagmeister’s work to be refreshing and I’m always fascinated when viewing it. Sagmeister has been an influence within my work and idea process when completing projects as I feel it’s important to experiment and try out new and/or unique methods of doing things. Creating images with type is something I would like to work on and I feel like Sagmeister is a great point of reference for this.
In 2017, I had the opportunity to see Stefan Sagmeister speak in person at The Future design conference in Dublin. It was an amazing experience getting to hear Sagmeister discuss design and topics regarding it, he also made his talk interactive which was an interesting thing to experience.
Having owned Sagmeister’s book, Things I Have Learned in My Life So Far, I enjoyed not only the content inside the booklets, but the way the booklets and the casing had been designed itself. The book featured 15 different covers, depending on which booklet you placed at the front of the die-cut holder.
